Left Bank Brasserie: Reviews & Ratings

Sadly, it appears that as of today (November 29, 2024), the Left Bank in Jack London Square has closed permanently. They appear to be cleaning out the premises and the JLS location no longer appears with the other locations on the Left Bank website. As a regular, I am deeply saddened and will miss the place greatly. It also doesn't bode well for Jack London Square overall.

Located in Jack London Square, Left Bank Brasserie is a delightful French eatery with a classy interior that boasts stunning ocean views, making it an ideal spot for a casual happy hour, a romantic dinner, or a place to a celebrate a special occasion! We visited during happy hour which is available at the bar, lounge, and patio every day from 3 pm-6 pm , and its hands down the BESTTT happy hour spot in Easy Bay! Cocktails were reasonably priced between $8 and $9. Now, let's talk about the food. The menu features a wide variety of mouthwatering appetizers that are perfect for sharing--or eating yourself! The 3 pork belly sliders were rich and flavorful with a satisfying crunch. The short rib poutine was another favorite, combining tender meat with perfectly crispy fries, all smothered in savory gravy. For seafood lovers, the mussels and calamari were fresh and cooked to perfection, while the oysters at just $2 each were an absolute steal! Service at Left Bank Brasserie was excellent; the staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. If you're looking for a place that offers delicious French cuisine in a chic setting, this is it! Don't miss out on this gem in Jack London Square! Can't wait to revisit and try the entrees this weekend for two birthday dinner celebrations!!! :)

After a recent Yelp event at this relatively new to Jack London Square restaurant, I was looking forward to returning for lunch. The food was amazing at this event, and I knew I would enjoy lunch. When my friend P suggested we meet for lunch, I suggested we come to the Left Bank. As usual, I was torn when I read the menu. I was tempted by the multi-course lunch it included, even though I am not a fan, Escargot. I would have given them to P. I wanted to try the onion soup but it was not on the special lunch so I passed on that and ordered off the menu. I finally decided on 1/2 pound of Moules and Frites in garlic Pernod broth, and the Onion Soup. The soup was rich and tasty. I enjoyed it. The Pernod broth was the perfect compliment for the succulent mussels. I wish I had put the Pernod broth that I did not finish in the container with my leftover soup. We both liked the fries; they were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly salted. P had the fish special. We also ordered bread. We had water and passed on dessert. The restaurant is spacious, we sat on the patio and enjoyed the view. It was a nice day and I was reminded of all the good things about Oakland. I am sorry I did not get the server's name she was pleasant and professional. There are two nearby parking lots. I understand that they do validate for the Amtrak lot across the tracks. Both lots are very close to the restaurant. I was happy, I found 4-hour street parking by the Amtrak station. I hate to pay for parking and don't mind walking to save a few dollars. I did have to wait for the train to go by before I could walk through the front door. It took me a while to get here after the Yelp event it will not take me long to go back for another lunch. I would even go by myself.

PSA: Come for happy hour between 3-6. The portion and prices are phenomenal for the amazing quality of food!! It was perfect weather outside, so I had wanted to dine outdoors. Left bank's patio is expansive and covered. Perfect spot to enjoy outdoor dining comfortably as well as people watch as they walk down the boardwalk. Happy hour goodies: * Half dozen oysters (perfectly shucked and good quality!) $12 * Steamed mussels with toasted French bread $10 * short rib poutine $10 * cheese burger sliders $6 each All were full portions and delicious!! Waitstaff was super attentive and friendly. Totally will come back again to try the rest of the menu!!

AMAZING spot for happy hour at Jack London. I haven't been to a happy hour in a while, but I used to go quite often, and let me tell you, the one here shot up to one of my favorites after just one visit! Happy hour is offered everyday from 3-6 pm. The food and drink specials were amazing and I was able to sample almost everything from the food menu. I visited on a Friday around 5:30 pm with 2 other friends and was glad to find that it wasn't too crowded. They have indoor and outdoor seating both, and if you opt to sit outside you can enjoy live music in the summertime every Friday evening through the end of September. I started with their Not-so-prickly margarita, which is a non-alcoholic margarita, for $9. It tasted like lemonade - a refreshing and delicious choice. You can get any wells drink for $8, so my friends got a gin and ginger beer as well as an old fashioned. Pours were generous even with happy hour pricing. For the food, my friends and I tried almost everything on the happy hour menu except for the olives. I particularly enjoyed the oysters ($12 for half dozen), mussels ($12), and the grilled pork belly sliders ($6), but overall everything was super solid. I must also mention the excellent service provided by our server, Majid, as well as Kevin, the store manager. They were both very friendly and made sure that our dining experience was top-notch. Overall, I highly recommend Left Bank Brasseries for an amazing happy hour, delicious food and drink specials, and friendly staff. I will definitely be returning in the future! They have a $25 weekday lunch special that I'd love to try.

Oysters, mussels, wine, and French onion soup on a beautiful day on the back patio?! Well, you ain't got to tell me twice! Love, love, loooove me some Left Bank Brasserie! Especially during happy hour because... they have a BOMB ass happy hour. Left Bank has become one of my favorite go-to spots for happy hour in Oakland. I've been a few times now, and to say that I'm hooked would be a complete understatement. What I also love is that happy hour is 7 days a week! Saturday afternoon on the patio sounds like my kind of end of the week celebration for sure. So, let's get into the deets now shall we?! First off, the ambience is absolutely wonderful! Their dining room has very classic décor with a beautiful wrap around bar area. It's open, airy, and spacious. The service is generally pleasant and attentive although there have been a few instances where it's been slow. I will say that it has been quite busy on their patio this summer, so I'll cut them slack with the service piece. Speaking of their patio; it's just simply the place to be. You'll have a great view of the Jack London Marina and Square and it feels nice to be out there when the weather is warm like it has been lately. Foodwise, you honestly can't go wrong here. If you're a seafood lover, their mussels are to die for! They're so succulent and the broth is always so soothing and flavorful. I also really enjoy the fresh oysters here as well. You pretty have to get their French onion soup. It's pretty damn phenomenal. All of that amazing melted cheese coupled with the sweet onions will be sure to knock those socks off. The happy hour apps are great here too. I mean, I haven't had a bad meal yet since I've dined here. Also, pleeeease save room for dessert and get the crème brulee or the profiteroles! Both are decadent and the perfect way to end your meal off right. What more can I say about this place? I could probably just gloat all day, but I'll just say that you need to get here and pronto. A little piece of French food heaven just tucked away in Jack London Square. I'm so grateful to have Left Bank in the neighborhood. They ain't neva getting' rid of me now... neva, nevaaa!

Came here for drinks.. happy hour was nice live band was a nice addition.. love the set up everyone can enjoy the ambiance no matter what part of the restaurant your in..all the staff was nice very welcoming. Outside seating and an event room or special events.. this place is amazing and clean sparkling clean.. bathrooms were nice and clean . I'm not a tequila fan but their signature drink was pretty tasty and they have a good selection of wine and champagne.. looking forward to to going back for dinner

Very very accommodating due to a delay in our arrival.I appreciate this. Brought friends to try this venue. The quick lunch prefix menu gives you 4 choices for each of your starter and entrées. dessert is the same for all. We started our $25 - 3 course lunch with a lovely light salad. Someone ordered the mushroom soup and that was a generous portion. We all ordered mussels in delicious spinach green broth. There is light buttered slice of buttered bread to soak up the broth. Where do you put your mussel shells? They provide a beautiful container for the used shells. All my mussels were opened, but one of my other diners mussel dish had a closed mussel shell... this not safe to eat, so he tossed it. The fries came presented in tins with " newspaper and red collar". The dessert is 2 French macarons cookies. So perfect to finish the meal. We had excellent service at this visit as I always do at this restaurant. Our server was excellent.

A gorgeous summer Sunday afternoon demanded that we find a patio somewhere to enjoy drinks and nibbles for happy hour. We remembered that neighbors had previously commented that Left Bank Brasserie in Jack London Square was worth visiting. And considering they are right down the street, we saw this as a perfect excuse to finally check it out ourselves. We are super glad that we did! Left Bank is located in a prime waterfront location in Jack London Square, occupying corner space right along the estuary. This location has changed hands many times over the past couple of decades, but has always had a very inviting outdoor dining patio. While the rebranding to Left Bank came with a lot of interior upgrades and redesigns, we were delighted that the patio area remains inviting and spacious. Without reservations, we were immediately seated outside and had a lovely breeze and optimum people watching as we scanned the menu. It was still happy hour so we found a few plates worth ordering (all $10 or less) as well as cocktails and wine. We were asked whether we wanted still or sparkling water and bread (be warned the sparkling water is $9 and bread $5). I made the rookie mistake of saying yes to both that immediately undercut the happy hour savings. Both were excellent, but not $14 excellent. Anyway, we ordered a dirty martini and sparkling wine for drinks ($8 each) and then for nibbles we selected the happy hour priced fried calamari ($10) and the cheeseburger slider ($6). The restaurant was neither full nor particularly busy, but our drink order didn't arrive until after the first food plate was brought to the table. A small hiccup in the grand scheme of things, but our main objective was taking advantage of happy hour pricing, and we only had about 30 min before that ended. The holdup seemed more like a bartender issue than a server issue, but hopefully that sorts itself out. My dirty martini was ice cold, perfectly mixed, and delicious. And the hubby enjoyed his glass of cava. My cheeseburger slider arrived and was perfectly medium rare as requested. It didn't come with any condiments other than some chopped pickle on the side, but in truth it didn't need anything. The beef flavor was rich and had great char. Our fried calamari arrived hot to the table, but was a little less crisp than we would have preferred. It seemed like it wasn't allowed to drain fully, so was plated a little on the greasy side atop a smear of tartar sauce. Flavor-wise, it was delicious. But could have used a bit more blotting on some paper. The squid was perfectly tender, however. No rubberbands! Either the drinks were strong, the food was so good, or both, but we had time left in happy hour to order another round of drinks, another slider, and also the shredded short rib smothered poutine (10). This time the wait wasn't as long for the drinks and food. Drinks were consistently good, same with the slider replay. The short rib poutine was a generous bowl of crisp shoestring fries (see! They can fry things crisp!) with a ladle of braised short rib meat on top. Not a light bite by any imagination, but utterly delicious. Service was attentive and friendly and made us feel welcome. Despite a few glitches with food delivery and the calamari fry, nothing put us off wanting to return to Left Bank Brasserie again to explore around the full menu.
